- At the command prompt change to the folder
containing the extracted files. Run MasterSetup.exe
under the Install folder with the parameter /i: and the
path to the setup.icf file. For example,
C:\ BAB901W\Install\MasterSetup.exe /i:c:\temp\setup.icf
- The setup log file can be found in the system temp
folder %Temp%\CASPsetup.log. Verify that all of the
patch installations completed successfully. When running in
silent mode, all reboot requests are logged in the log
file. After performing a silent installation, check the log
file for reboot requests.
- When the silent installation of the patch is
completed, the extracted source files can be deleted.
To install this patch remotely:
- Run the self-extracting file BAB901WP4a.exe.
- Specify whether to leave or delete the unpacked files after the patch operation
is completed. If you choose to leave the unpacked files, you can change the
destination folder to which to extract the source files or you can click Next
to extract to the default folder C:\BAB901WP4.

Double-click each of them to configure remote installation.
- The available patch components are listed for the
target server. Choose the components to install and click
Next to continue applying the selected patch. By default,
all available update packages are preselected. Packages
with prerequisites cannot be selected individually. For
example, Disaster Recovery Option cannot be selected unless
the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Base component is selected.
Repeat steps 6 and 7 for all selected servers.
- The setup log file can be found in the system temp folder %Temp%\CASPsetup.log
on the target machine. Verify that all of the patch installations completed
successfully and determine if the remote machine should be restarted.
- When the installation is complete, if you chose to delete the unpacked files,
the extracted source files are deleted. If you chose to leave the unpacked
files, you can run the patch again by launching MasterSetup.exe from
the Install folder. When the remote installation of the patch is completed,
the extracted source files can be deleted.
In the following sections, all lines beginning with [Txxxxxx] (where xxxxxx
is the test fix number) are included in this update. If you received a test
fix not listed below, contact Computer Associates Technical Support to determine
how the fix can be reapplied.
The following section addresses issues related to the
BrightStor ARCserve Backup v9 Base product:
[T36B059] Fixed a problem in both English and Japanese versions that caused
an application error when using the ca_restore command without specifying destination
path parameters.
[T683525] The message "AW0272 Reboot [computer name] in order to replace restored
active files" has been changed from an informational message to a warning message.
[T16C312] Backup, restore and merge jobs no longer fail with QLogic controller
QLA12160.
The following issue related to the Agent for Microsoft SQL has been addressed:
[QO38957] BrightStor ARCserve Backup can now back up Juris on local machines
using the default Juris backup account. BrightStor ARCserve Backup only uses
VDI for local backups, which requires users to have system administrator rights
in the SQL Server. Juris backup users only have backup operator rights in
the databases. Therefore, backups must be taken using Named Pipes. This fix
allows you to force the Agent to use Named Pipes when backing up SQL on a
local machine.
The following issue related to the Tape Library Option has been addressed:
[T16C272] Compaq 20/40 autoloader slots no longer appear empty or blank after
backup jobs start. Previously, these slots appeared empty or blank after the
start of a backup job even though they were displayed correctly after the
tape engine started.
After applying this patch, you must recreate the Machine Specific Disk.
Depending upon the configuration of your system, you may encounter the error
"The Disk is Full." If this error occurs, perform the following steps:
- Delete all of the files in the x:\Program Files\BrightStor ARCserve
Backup\drpatch.xp folder except for the files drlaunch.exe and drlaunchres.dll,
where x:\ is the system drive on which you installed BrightStor ARCserve
Backup.
- Create the Machine Specific Disk for Windows XP/Windows 2003 from the
Create Boot Kit Wizard.
- Create a folder called CD_image with a subfolder called BOOTDISK
- Copy all files from x:\Program Files\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\Bootdisk.w2k
to the CD_image\Bootdisk folder
- Copy the arc.w2k file from Brightstor ARCserve Backup Version
9 for Windows CD to the CD_image folder
- Burn the CD_image folder to a CD media. The root of the CD should contain
the Bootdisk folder and arc.w2k file.
- During disaster recovery, when prompted to insert the BrightStor ARCserve
Backup product CD, insert the CD you burned in the previous step and proceed
with the normal recovery process.
If you use the floppy-based Disaster Recovery method for a Windows 2000 server
after applying BrightStor ARCserve Backup 9.01 Patch 4a (rather than using
the more efficient CD recovery) perform the following steps:
For Windows 2000 (local and remote floppy method)
- Run the self-extracting file BAB901WP4aDR.exe and change
the destination folder to which you want to extract the files, or click
Unzip to extract to the default folder C:\BAB901WP4DR. There are six self-extracting
executables and six batch files available after extraction for the following
languages.
English
- BAB901WRE.exe
- DRUpdateE.bat
French
- BAB901WDRF.exe
- DRUpdateF.bat
German
- BAB901WDRG.exe
- DRUpdateG.bat
Italian
- BAB901WDRI.exe
- DRUpdateI.bat
Japanese
- BAB901WDRJ.exe
- DRUpdateJ.bat
Chinese
- BAB901WDRC.exe
- DRUpdateC.bat
- Copy the self-extracting file and the batch file for the Operating System
language you are using to perform the disaster recovery operation to a blank
disk (for example, if you are recovering an English system, copy the BAB901WDRE.exe
and DRUpdateE.bat files). Preserve the disk with the Boot diskettes.
- During the Disaster Recovery process, after the first reboot (the first
time the Disaster Recovery wizard screen appears), go to the command prompt
by holding down the Ctrl and Shift keys and double-click the graphic on
the left hand side (double-clicking invokes a drop-down menu).
- Choose Command Line.
- Enter cd DR to change the directory to c:\drboot.tmp\system32\dr,
where c:\ is your system partition drive.
- Copy the executable and the batch file from the disk to the DR folder.
- Run the batch file from the DR folder (for example, c:\drboot.tmp\system32\dr\DRUpdateE.bat).
- In the pop-up window, use the default location c:\drboot.tmp\system32\dr\
(change the drive letter if your system partition is not on c:\), and click
the Unzip button to extract.
- Close the window when the extraction is complete.
- At the prompt, type Exit and press the Enter key to return to the Disaster
Recovery Wizard.
- Click the Cancel button. A pop-up dialog appears, asking "Exit BrightStor
AB Disaster Recovery Wizard?" Click Yes. Your machine automatically restarts.
- Follow the normal Disaster Recovery procedure after restarting your machine.
Troubleshooting
When installing the Active Directory server on a Windows 2003 server, the
promoting process tightens the local security policy for the new domain controller.
Because of this, Windows NT 4.0 remote Disaster Recovery may fail to connect
to the server. The following steps enable Windows NT 4.0 compatibility on
this type of system.
- From Administrative Tools, go to Domain Controller Security Policy.
- Select Local Policies and select Security Options.
- Disable the setting Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications
(always).
- Disable the setting Domain member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel
data (always).
Important! For security reasons, you must undo the security
setting changes above once the Windows NT 4.0 Disaster Recovery is performed.
The following issue related to the Image Option has been addressed:
[T1A5143] Selective file restores with the Image Option no longer fail to
restore all selected files without generating an error message.
Support for NetApp 6.4 has been added to the Network Attached Storage
Option.
This cumulative patch contains WORM Media Support.
After you apply the modules, keep the following considerations in mind:
- You must separate WORM and non-WORM media in the same library using the
BrightStor ARCserve Backup Virtual Library Option through Device Configuration.
If WORM and regular media are not separated, the Job Manager treats all
media as WORM media. However, the Device Manager can manage these media
correctly.
- Media Pool operations, backup jobs using the Overwrite option, Tape Erase
operations, and backup jobs involving Media Pools (such as GFS rotation
jobs) are not supported on WORM media. These operations are either blocked
or disabled in WORM support updates.
- BrightStor ARCserve Backup Command Line features do not differentiate
between WORM media and regular tapes. We recommend that you avoid using
the Command Line with WORM media, or use it with extra caution.
- The Set Unknown Tapes to Blank option in the Tape Library Configuration
dialog is not supported on WORM media. Do not enable this feature with WORM
media.
- Only blank WORM media can be used during a span condition.
